Windows 11 25H2 Upgrade - What to Expect and How to Prepare

As we approach the upgrade to Windows 11 25H2, here’s what you need to know and do to ensure a smooth transition:

  1. Verify You Have a Current Backup of Your Data
    • Before the upgrade, back up all your important files and data.
    • You can use OneDrive or an external hard drive/flash drive. This ensures no data is lost during the upgrade process.
  1. Keep Your Computer Powered On and Connected
    • You can continue using your computer while the upgrade gets pushed to your computer.
    • Make sure your computer remains powered on during the week of the upgrade. Connect to a power supply if using a laptop to prevent interruptions during installation.
    • Keep your computer connected to a stable Internet connection to allow the update to download and install seamlessly.

  2. Check "Windows Update" Periodically
    • The Windows 11 25H2 installation will be available under Windows Update, but it may take several days to appear.
    • To check if Windows 11 25H2 is ready to be installed, navigate to Start>Settings>Windows Update.
    • The system may notify you once the upgrade is ready to be installed and a restart is required, but it’s good practice to check manually on a regular basis.
    • When the upgrade is available, note:
      • How long you have before your device is required to restart.
      • The estimated time it will take for the installation to complete once you restart your computer.
    • Installation times will vary from computer to computer.
    • If you take no action, your computer should automatically restart and upgrade to Windows 11 25H2 within 18 to 24 hours from the time the version was ready to be install.
    • If your computer's hard drive is full, it will not be able to upgrade. Technology Support will reach out to you with further instructions.

    •
  3. Expect Some Downtime
    • The installation process can take some time to complete. Your computer will restart several times, and your screen may go black for several minutes during the upgrade.
    • DO NOT power off your computer while it is upgrading.
    • Once installation is complete, the Windows sign-in screen will appear.

  4. Post-Upgrade
    • After the installation is complete, sign in and verify that:
    • All files and data are present.
    • Your applications launch successfully.
    • Your applications function as expected.
