How to run a single file as Administrator

The process to request administrative privileges to run one specific file is very easy and is described in the simple steps below: 

When you need to install software or run a specific file as Administrator you need to make a request. Simply double-click the file or right click the file and select “Run as Administrator”.


 

In the Admin by Request screen that opens, enter your UNCSA email address, your phone number, and the reason you want to run the file. Click the “OK” button. 


 

Admin by Request will display the Code of Conduct instructions. 

 

The file will run normally with administrator rights. After the file runs, Admin by Request will automatically end the administrator rights for that file. 

How to Start an Admin Session

The process to request a timed administrative session to install software or do additional administrative tasks is very easy and is described in the simple steps below: 

When you need admin access you need to make a request. Simply double click the “Administrator Access” icon on the desktop.


 

or, click the Admin By Request icon in the System Tray (next to system clock in the lower right-hand corner of your screen) to request an admin access session. 


 

In the Admin by Request screen that opens, enter your UNCSA email address, your phone number, and the purpose of your administrator session. Click the “OK” button. 


 

Click “OK” on the request acknowledgement screen. 


 

If your request is approved, click “Yes” on the Request Approved window to start your Admin session. If your request is denied, you’ll receive an email with further details.  


 

If your request was approved, Admin by Request will display the Code of Conduct instructions window.  

 

Click the “OK” button and the administrator session timer will begin counting down. NOTE: some operations, such as uninstalling an app, will prompt you for an Admin username and password: 

 

When you’re finished with your Administrator session, click the “Finish” button.
