How to report a phishing/spam email from the Outlook app

What is phishing?

Phishing is the practice of defrauding users into giving up their usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, and other personal information. Phishing emails will often try to get you to click on links that take you to fake websites. They often pretend to be from organizations such as a bank, PayPal, Amazon, or even TeamDynamix.

Never click on links or open attachments in emails asking you to provide personal information. 

What is spam?

Spam is unsolicited junk email sent indiscriminately in bulk, often for commercial purposes. Much of it is sent by botnets, networks of virus-infected computers, complicating the process of tracking down the spammers. According to various estimates, about 80% of all email in the world may be spam.

Outlook app for Windows:

1. Click on the email you want to report as phishing/spam from the Reading Pane.
2. Click on the "Phish Alert Report" button from the Outlook ribbon.
3. The email will automatically be deleted and reported to IT Security.

"New" Outlook app for Macs:

1. Click on the email you want to report as phishing/spam from the Reading Pane
2. Click on the 3 dots (ellipses) from the Outlook ribbon
3. Select "Phish Alert"
4. The email will automatically be deleted and reported to IT Security.

"Legacy" Outlook app for Macs:

1. Click on the email you want to report as phishing/spam from the Reading Pane.
2. Click on the "Phish Alert Report" button from the Outlook ribbon.
3. The email will automatically be deleted and reported to IT Security.

Outlook Web App:

1. Open the email you want to report as phishing or spam.
2. Click on the Phishing Alert icon as displayed in the image below.
3. The email will automatically be deleted and reported to IT Security.
