Navigate/subscribe to public folders using the Outlook desktop app for Macs

Important: Public folders are NOT accessible in the "New" Outlook version for Mac.

If you would like to switch to the legacy version of Outlook, refer to Switch to the "Legacy" version of Outlook for Macs

Overview:

Public folders in Outlook give the university's organizations and departments a place to store, organize, and share information about particular topics or projects. Despite the word "public", not all content within a public folder (inboxes, subfolders, calendars) are accessible to everyone. In order to access the content within a particular public folder, one must be granted permission.

Subscribe to public folders using the legacy Outlook desktop app for Macs:
  1. On the Tools menu within the Outlook app, click Public Folders.

  2. In the left pane, under Public Folders, select the account that you want to subscribe to public folders.

A list of public folders appears.

  3. Click the folder that you want to subscribe to, and then click Subscribe +.

The subscribed folder appears in the left navigation pane under Subscribed Public Folders.

  4. To view the contents of the folder, click the folder in the navigation pane. Messages or contacts in the folder appear in the item list. Or, if the folder is a calendar folder, events appear on the calendar.
